Somers Randolph Artist Talk

Stone can be an unforgiving medium for sculptors. One errant swing of a mallet or a poorly placed chisel can shatter weeks of concentrated work. For the closing of the MACC’s Canvas + Stone exhibition, the renowned stone sculptor Somers Randolph  will be on hand to discuss the challenges of his singular artform. Randolph will demonstrate the processes he uses to create his amazing sculptural shapes, with their delicate curves and arcs, intricate whorls and spirals, and sensuous undulating knots. He’ll also discuss the luminosity of his polishing technique, a final touch that turns each of his works into an unquestioned masterpiece. This event offers a unique opportunity to meet the artist, ask questions and celebrate the final day of Randolph’s and painter Kathryn Dettwiller’s striking group exhibition.
