Dyeing to try something new? Participants will create one-of-a kind permanent patterns and textures on cotton and silk using the ancient Japanese art of bound resist dyeing. It’s hard not to fall in love with the unlimited possibility of combining Shibori techniques of stitching, binding, folding, clamping and wrapping with the mysterious qualities of dye. Each time manipulated bundles emerge from a vat, the unfolded fabric reveals unique and exciting patterns. Students will learn through step-by-step instruction and design exercises. Those with previous experience will have the freedom to explore advanced techniques. We will start with group demonstrations and experimentation prior to starting on individual projects.
